Fig tree xylophagous pest’s effects in the Bejaia region (central-north Algeria)

چکیده
In response to alerts from farmers in Bejaia region (central-north Algeria) about the decline of their fig trees, a survey was conducted between 2019 and 2021 main localities known for crops. Hypocryphalus scabricollis (Eichhoff) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae: Scolytinae) identified as causal agent tree region. This species is reported first time Algeria. Here, morphological description biological traits this are given. Distribution H. illustred, an overview its behaviour, symptoms damage caused host plant, potential impact commercial production discussed. work aims provide preliminary database scientific community xylophagous pest trees alert regional national policy makers take it seriously address emerging bark beetle problems before too late.
